We got an earlyish start and set off of the highways, parkways, interstates, bridges, tunnels and toll-roads towards Washington. We feel quite "bike-fit" at the moment and it's getting easier to cover longer distances so we did two 100-mile stretches to start.
The roads around the big cities get very busy (full, but fast-moving) and I think I found where all of California's trucks are: racing around New York. We paid about $20 in toll fees during the ride and travelled over some spectacular bridges and through long tunnels.
We booked a cheap hotel on the outskirts of Washington before we left and rolled in here about 5pm.
Tomorrow we'll explore the capital.
