The LA streets were quiet due to the public holiday. We first found the Japanese Village Plaza, but everything was closed. Then the Grand Central Market and an explosion of exotic sounds and smells. It is an indoor market with fresh produce specialising in Mexican and Chinese cuisine. We grabbed a delicious spicy chicken and chicken and mushroom Chinese lunch from one of the stalls.

You have to like this wedding chapel near the market - get married and divorced in one, convenient location.

Then we navigated to Hollywood which took a while even with the GPS because the highway system is very complicated and if you miss a turn it takes quite an effort to get back onto the right route.

We cruised Hollywood Boulevard taking in the sights and people and then stopped to walk around.

The street is quite a tourist trap, but there were many sights that were familiar. All sorts of characters patrolled the street: tourists; drug addicts; Superman and Batman; police; bums; starlets; ... Fascinating to walk around.

We wangled an invitation to an A-list party where Britney was very pleased to meet me and Cathy made a pest of herself with The Rock.

Number One, engage warp drive and get us out of here...

We made our way back through Beverly Hills and Wilshire Boulevard back into the city. After freshing up, we had the best sushi we've ever had at a restaurant called Wokano near our hotel (red dragon and green dragon rolls are really recommended). It's a good thing that the Rand is quite strong at the moment as we've found that even eating at a fancy restaurant is reasonably priced compared to what we are used to.

Off to Disneyland now...
